The Messy Middle: Making Change Possible with ADHD

Once you decide to make a change, it's remarkable! You started, and I’m so proud of you.
With ADHD brains, we get super excited about change. We’re all in for the first week or two, and then our eyes open to how much work it’s actually going to be.
Then comes the choice. (sometimes unconscious)
Choice one: You might ignore the change and move on with your life, frustrated because you know how good it could be, but exhausted just looking at the mountain you have to climb.
Choice two: You embrace the change and feel awful about being “bad” at something. It’s uncomfortable because you’re making conscious changes that go against the status quo.
If you keep going, you’re then presented with two more choices:
Do it alone. Give up for months at a time. Try to come back less confident than before, letting your brain shame you into believing you can never do it.
Or choose support. Tell people about what you’re doing. Ask for help. Share with a friend. Explain to a family member how they can support you. Join a community. (And if you’re a little more “needy”(in the best way) hire a coach.)

When you choose support, here’s what happens:
On the hardest days, someone reminds you why you started.
When you’re ready to give up, they remind you it’s okay to have a hard day—and you get to start again tomorrow.
Someone else tells you it’s actually normal to feel uncomfortable. And coming out of hiding from that discomfort is where true growth happens.
This year my husband and I made one of the scariest, most difficult decisions of our lives.
We sold our home. My husband quit his job. We’re building a new life on the East Coast.
The honest truth? Without friends, family, and communities to support me, I’d be curled up in a corner, sobbing like a little baby with no hope in sight.
But with community, I can sob in the corner—and someone taps me on the shoulder to remind me there’s still hope.
Making Change Possible with ADHD is about finding the people to support you. Don't go at it alone. You're NOT alone. There are so many others who have the same goal you are seeking.
This is exactly why I built the ADHD Organizing Community—so you don’t have to do the messy middle alone. We’re here for the small wins, the gentle accountability, and the reminders that you can keep going.
